Bags and pads

Start with a model built for the work you do. The Tuf Wear Cruise is a straightforward bag-and-pad option with a synthetic outer and a hook-and-loop strap you can fasten yourself. A dedicated sparring glove has a different job, even when the label says the same weight.

Sparring

The Rival RS80V is a dedicated sparring model with low-density moulded foam and an angled hook-and-loop strap. For adults, its 14oz option is only a choice under 65kg where your coach or gym permits it. The standard is 16oz below 90kg and 18oz at 90kg and above, subject to coach or gym rules. Fastening and fit

Choose hook and loop if you want to get your gloves on and off without help between rounds. Laces let you adjust the fastening along the wrist, but you will normally need someone to tie them. Cleto Reyes offers both closures in this range.

Check the fit with your usual hand wraps. You should be able to close your fist comfortably without your fingertips being crushed or your hand sliding around. A 14oz label does not tell you how roomy the glove is. Our boxing glove size guide explains weight and hand fit.
