Horsehair feels firmer and more compact. It gives sharper feedback on impact, so you feel exactly where the punch is landing. Foam absorbs more of the shock, while horsehair transmits it back to your hand.
Are horsehair gloves suitable for sparring?
These are built for bag and pad work, not sparring. Horsehair compresses less than modern foam, which means less protection for your training partner. Use a dedicated sparring glove for partner work.
How do I care for horsehair gloves?
Wipe the leather down after each session and let the gloves air out fully before storing them. Avoid leaving them in a sealed bag, as trapped moisture breaks down both the leather and the padding. Stored properly, the horsehair holds its shape for years.
